Co-Founder / Owner
Rex Elliott co-founded Cooper Elliott in 1995 and has been a trial lawyer for more than 30 years. He has achieved numerous multi-million dollar jury verdicts and settlements in complex state and federal cases. Rex built his legal career at Sullivan & Cromwell on Wall Street and Porter Wright–two of the country’s most prestigious firms–before dedicating himself entirely to representing individuals and businesses that need protection from those in positions of extreme power. Since the firm’s inception, Rex has been directly involved in more than half a billion dollars in verdicts and settlements.
About Rex
Rex’s Mission
Before co-founding Cooper Elliott, Rex practiced with Sullivan & Cromwell on Wall Street–where, just two years out of law school, he tried an $800 million partnership dispute and represented the NFL in antitrust litigation–and then at Porter Wright Morris & Arthur. Ultimately, Rex found representing faceless corporations unfulfilling and chose to dedicate his career to protecting individuals and businesses that need a champion.
Rex’s high-profile representations include Keziah Lewis, seriously injured in the Fireball accident at the Ohio State Fair; Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith during the domestic violence investigation involving an assistant football coach; and cases that led to the resignation of Ohio’s Attorney General and the Franklin County Clerk of Courts. He has also argued successfully before the Ohio Supreme Court and numerous state and federal appellate courts.
“When you retain Cooper Elliott, you don’t just get me–you get the wealth of our resources and team, and we have the legal and financial resources to pursue any matter. You are our priority, and we will handle your legal matter as if you were a family member.”
Rex is a proud father of four daughters, a ten-year President of the Denison Athletic Alumni Association, and current President of the Entrepreneurs Organization, with a recent appointment to the EO Global Regional Board.
Before Rex Elliott was a trial lawyer, he was a competitor. At Denison University, Rex was a four-year varsity letter winner in football, earned First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in 1982 and 1983, and set the single-season reception record–a mark that still stands today. He was later inducted into the Denison University Athletic Hall of Fame. The same drive and determination that made him an elite athlete is what he brings to every case he tries.
