Karl C. Kerschner is a Partner & the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. He is a lawyer and former civil litigator who knows that running a business takes hard work, dedication, and an environment that blends purpose, discipline, and a drive for continual improvement.
Before joining Cooper Elliott, Karl practiced with Wood & Lamping, LLP and then with Ice Miller, LLP (formerly Schottenstein, Zox & Dunn Co., LPA) where he represented Fortune 500 companies in complex civil litigation matters. Thereafter, Karl managed, built, and sold his own law firm and complementary real estate title and escrow business focused on corporate, financial institution, and governmental client representation throughout the State of Ohio. In addition, Karl continues to serve as Corporate Counsel for a large dealership group.
Over the last two decades, Karl has also been entrusted to serve the State of Ohio through appointments by the State’s judicial and governmental leaders, including the following:
- Ohio Elections Commission: Appointed by Governor DeWine to serve a five-year term from 2024 through 2028 as a Member of the Ohio Elections Commission with responsibilities including the adjudication of Ohio’s Campaign Finance Laws.
- Ohio Commodores: Appointed by Governor Kasich in 2012 as a Member of the Executive Order of the Ohio Commodores, the mission of which is to assist the State of Ohio in its advancement in all areas contributing to the economic growth and development of the State.
- Special Counsel: Appointed by Attorney General DeWine and Attorney General Yost from 2012 through 2021 to serve as Special Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General.
- Ohio Court of Claims: Appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to serve a six-year term from 2006 through 2011 as an Ohio Court of Claims Commissioner presiding over Ohio Crime Victim Reparation Fund appeals within the Ohio Court of Claims.
As Partner & Chief Operating Officer, Karl is focused on implementing and executing Cooper Elliott’s Strategic Plan, including the firm’s financial, marketing, people, process, governance, and information technology objectives.
